St Barbara's Day

It's sort of like halloween, but based on some story about St Barbara
would had to dress up in costume to do some religious thing or other.
No one knew really, we just wanted to dress up and walk around town
giving out candy.
Only one of the men in the top picture is in costume.

Book signing of a book signing

Zena el Khalil signs copies of her book "Beirut I Love You" in the
background, while in the foreground Sara signs the page she's
mentioned on! At the Book Fair in Biel, Beirut.

Beirut Street View

View towards Hamra from Clemenceau, from my friend's office.

Welcome to Cambridge

Bike lot outside Cambridge train station. Yes, a lot of people ride bikes in this town. This wasn't the whole lot either.

Welcome! Fancy a cup o' tea? Oh, and please keep the fuck off the bloody grass, eh?

Oh those wild Cambridge kids and their anarchistic, obscenely intellectual graffiti.

Notice how the "Duke of Edinburgh", who contributed nothing to this discovery, gets just as many lines on this plaque as do the discoverers of DNA.

Credit Crunch Sale

High St Kensington, London.

They really like to call it the "Credit Crunch" here a lot. As someone
said, it starts to sound more like a chocolate bar the more you say
it. Even with 70% off I still wouldn't shop here.

The John Snow Pub

In Soho, London.

It's President Obama

The Wed 5 Nov issue of The Guardian records the occasion (yes I'm in
London now).

Now that Obama's going to be president...

...it occured to me that all this anti-bush paraphernalia and
memorabilia that has so colored the american urban landscape over the
past 8 years may soon all fade away with the times. So I thought I'd
immortalize this one, shot from a car in a New Haven parking lot.

Waiting to Vote for Obama

New Haven. The whole thing took an hour and a half but eventually I
got my "I Voted Today" sticker and that's what it's all about.
Check out some similar scenes from around the US: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/11/04/us/politics/20081104-readers-slideshow_index.html

Halloween in NYC

Halloween is awesome in this city. The streets are teeming with all
sorts of dead things.

Graffiti in toilet at The Library, Lower East Side, New York

Monotonix in NYC

These guys were amazing to watch. Pure performance art, forget the music. The drummer looks like Borat. The singer bares his ass. The guitarist rocks. In the movie above, the singer is pounding the drummer with a garbage can. This band plays on the audience floor and moves the drum kit around through the audience as they play. They also spill massive quantities of beer on each other. The picture where they're up on the bar was just before the sound engineers cut their sound off and cut their set short, probably for fear they were going to trash the bar.
This band believes in a one-state (or two-state) solution and full rights of return for all refugees to their pre-1948 homes.

"Great" T-shirt designs at a Gas Station in BF, Pennsylvania

There was another one that said ROCK ON in big letters, but upon
closer examination revealed "Jesus is the ROCK ON which I stand". Lame
perversion of an anti-conformist slogan.

Pennsylvania Drive Movie

Surreal clouds.

American Parties

I forgot and was reminded tonight that in America, parties are all
about drinking. Drinking A LOT. And here to demonstrate one way of
drinking are these dudes, helping one dude do a keg stand. That means
you get flipped upside down and have to drink in that position from
the pressurized tap of a beer keg. Wonder Drain Bamage ensues.

Maysoon Zayid at Yale

This palestinian-american girl is a great comedian, although she
starred in that shitty film You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Good stuff.

Rothko Exhibit, Tate Modern, London

No photography allowed, took this on the fly. This painting makes me
think of doors, doors of perception perhaps.

Fossil shell, probably 100 million years old, give or take 10 million.
